Depending on the circumstances in which we find ourselves, most of us are capable of being both introverted and extroverted. For those of us in the business world, however, being introverted is often seen as a disadvantage, especially when it comes to sales. Not only are some introverts sometimes reluctant to attend large gatherings, which impedes their ability to make connections with suppliers and clients, but they may also be hesitant to sell themselves and their services.
While social situations may be a challenge for introverts, reserved business owners can take steps to overcome shyness and further their professional success. It might be obvious to some, but some of the traits associated with introverts are actually a boon in the business world, and can be used to the seller’s advantage. Here are five sales tips to help introverted entrepreneurs meet their goals.
1. Talk to Strangers
As an introvert, you may have a harder time reaching out to investors and prospective customers than your extroverted peers. One way to boost your sales record is to make an effort to talk to strangers in casual circumstances. Try saying "hi" to your neighbor in the elevator or strike up a conversation with the barista at Starbucks. Keep the conversation positive and know that you're making their day better. These small interactions can help prepare you for the bigger task of making a sale.
